Newsletter: 122 for October 2006

Apologies received from Stuart, John Holden and Peter, although we did have a new member join us for the first time tonight. Ace the magic cat enjoyed time with Caroline, Zac and Stan. Ace was so happy with his new friends, he fell asleep next to Stan and John and Martin had trouble getting him to go home at the end of the evening!

Dave welcomed everyone along to this evening’s lecture and Patrick reminded everyone that subs are now overdue and that visiting magicians were asked to pay £5. Dave did the tea and coffee count and successfully counted 17!

I outlined the details for the Annual Dinner and the Shoreham Show and reiterated that for the Show if each member sells just 6 tickets, we will have a full house. Unfortunately the buffet idea proved too expensive so post meeting a suggestion of nibbles on the tables (ie. peanuts, crisps, etc.) has been suggested. As regards to the Annual Dinner, as yet we have only sold two tickets. Menus were distributed to all with a request that details of required food by telephoned through to Martin or myself urgently so we can pass on these to the hotel management prior to the event. We will also need raffle prizes for both the Dinner and the show please. Martin and I will be preparing posters and will email these across for you to print out yourselves and display prominently please. Tickets for the Show and Dinner are available from Martin or myself. Please telephone us as our email can be somewhat tempramental.

Martin outlined that ACES t-shirts are now available at £7.99 each and it would be great to see those friends who are helping front of house and on the stage (non-performers) to purchase these. Lynn, Martin and myself have already put our orders in.

Dave introduced Trevor Duffy, a friendly face from South Africa who Martin, Geoff and I met in Blackpool. ACES was the first evening of Trevor’s lecture tour entitled “Crossing the Fine Line” which he will be performing around the UK over the coming months after attending the Eastbourne Convention next week. He started off by telling us all that time had moved on by some three minutes, and after showing a great routine with a smoking deck moved cards across from one pocket to another. If you weren’t there, I’m not telling you anymore... it had to be seen. All I will say as a reminder is 1) Attitude, 2) Rapport, 3) Coincidences, 4) Knock-out Routines, 5) Practice (take note Dave!), 6) Fillers and 7) Dress and Lasting Impressions.

Members and visitors alike thoroughly enjoyed our time with Trevor even if I did write a cheque for Martin to purchase lecture notes and a new routine payable to Patrick Duffy! Ooops! I always did enjoy Dallas.

Many thanks Trevor from everyone here at ACES and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

No doubt in October we will hear from Geoff and John about the Eastbourne Convention and I personally can’t wait to hear about Supreme Magic from Mike P. as Martin has told me all about the huge directory of magic that Edwin used to sell. If, like Martin, you have any Supreme effects you can’t remember the working of, I’m sure Mike can help. It’s great to have him as part of ACES as he truly is a mind of amazing information.

Please can those of you who hold trophies bring them along to October’s meeting as we will need to sort out the new holders for presentation at the Annual Dinner.

Meeting closed at 10.15pm.
